The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to the uniform nomenclature of seven security forces in India under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs. They are the Assam Rifles (AR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), National Security Guard (NSG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Notification for Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination 2019. The Examination is going to held on 18th August 2019. Applications are invited from eligible Candiates. Candidates can apply through online on or before 20th May 2019 till 06.00 PM.
- Recruitment is conducted mainly in three modes Gazetted Officers: Officers in CAPFs are recruited through the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination conducted by UPSC.
- Subordinate Officers: Sub Inspectors are recruited through competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission and they are referred as DASOs (Directly Appointed Subordinate Officers).
- Constables: Constables are recruited through competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission.

Age Limit: Candidates applying for this role must have attained the age of 20 years to must not have attained the age of 25 years on 1st August, 2019, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1994 and not later than 1st August, 1999.
Education Qualification: Candidates applying for this role must hold a Bachelor’s degree of a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.
Roles and Responsibilities
Assistant Commandant (AC) lead a company of around 150 armed personnel, which is deployed for conducting elections and maintaining normalcy, apart from the original mandates of border guarding and guarding the industrial corridors (CISF). Though CRPF is one such force which is directly involved in law and order maintenance and assisting the local administration in maintaining the local order
The Assistant Commandant has to perform functions like planning and conduct of operations, ensuring on the job training to keep the Company in the constant state of operational preparedness for the requirement in any situation, organizing independent intelligence network for operational efficiency, ensuring efficacy and serviceability of armaments in the Company.
CAPF Application Procedure
- Interested candidates who satisfy the eligibility conditions set by the Commission can apply online for the Assistant Commandant post through the website www.upsconline.nic.in.
- The online application process comprises of two stages.
- Candidates are advised to scan their photograph and signature prior to filling up the application form.
- The photograph and signature should be in the .jpg format. The file should not exceed 40 KB and must not be less than 3 KB in size for the photograph and 1 KB for the signature.
- Aspirants should avoid multiple applications.
- Candidates are suggested to apply online well in time without waiting for the last date for submission of Online Applications.
- There is no option for the withdrawal of online application for CAPF.
UPSC CAPF Recruitment: Selection process
- Written Examination
- Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests
- Interview/Personality Test
- Final Selection / Merit
(i) Written Examination: The written examination to be conducted by the UPSC will have two papers.
Paper I will have objective (multiple answers type questions of 250 marks to test candidates general ability and intelligence.
Paper II will have questions on general studies, essay and comprehension carrying 200 marks.
There will be penalty (negative marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the objective type question paper.
There will be minimum qualifying marks separately in each Paper. Paper I will be evaluated first and Paper II will be evaluated only of those candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in Paper I.
ii)Physical Standards/Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests:Candidates who clear the written examination will be called for Physical Standards/ Physical Efficiency Tests and Medical Standards Tests.

iii) Interview/Personality Test: Those who clear the second hurdle will be call for interview carrying 150 marks.
The final merit list will made on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the Written test and interview/personality test.
Nationality: No person who is not a citizen of India shall, except with the consent of the Central Government signified in writing be appointed or employed under these Rules. Provided that nothing contained in these rules shall debar the appointment, enrolment or employment of a subject of Nepal or Bhutan under these Rules.

UPSC CAPF notification 2019: Exam pattern
The written examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. It will comprise two papers. Paper I and Paper II that will be held on the same day.
Paper I : General Ability and Intelligence – 250 Marks
The questions in this paper will be of Objective (Multiple Answers) Type in which the questions will be set in English as well as Hindi.
Paper II: General Studies, Essay and Comprehension – 200 Marks
In this paper candidates will be allowed the option of writing the essay component in English or Hindi, but the medium of precis writing, comprehension components and other communications/ language skills will be English only.
Those who clear the written exam will then have to appear for the physical efficiency test followed by the interview round.
CAPF Examination centre
The written examination for the CAPF Assistant Commandant will be held at the below-listed examination centres. The allotment of the test centres will be based on the ”first-apply-first-allot.”
